Let's Discuss: The Hunger Games!

Hey guys!

Okay I cannot stop thinking about these books and movie and I need to talk it out with someone: you! I know this has nothing to do with nail polish but I also know a lot of you are obsessed with this movie like I am!

Got it? If you don't want spoilers, don't read this. And if you read it and you didn't mean to, please don't get mad at me because I ruined it for you.

OKay, so... what did you guys think of the movie? First, just about everyone who was cast is almost exactly how I pictured them, especially Effie, Foxface and Cato. Spot on. I wasn't sure how I felt about Josh Hutcherson being cast as Peeta but I did like him. He seemed likeable. And Gale... omfg, Gale is hot. I mean, Liam Hemsworth is hot. Okay, 13 year old girl is gone, adult Amanda is back now :-)

As far as the movie goes, I was.... a teeny tiny little bit disappointed. I liked the movie but I didn't love it like I was expecting to. There was almost no character development, which is kind of important since there are going to be at least 2 others movies. Obviously everything from the book can't make it into the movie but it feels like they left out a lot that was kind of important.

While I was reading the books, I was very involved, emotionally. I really CARED about the characters; I cried for like 3 days after I finished reading them and felt a giant hole in my heart. While watching the movie... not so much. I didn't even cry when Rue died, and I sobbed when I read that in the book. There was no information in the movie about her that made me super sad, other than the fact that a child was murdered. I did tear up when Katniss saluted District 11.

Anyway, I would have preferred the movie been about 30 minutes longer (yes, it was 2.5 hours long but that was a wicked fast 2.5 hours!) just for some character development. Peeta and Katniss' story is kind of important, at least in my opinion. Maybe that's the sappy romantic in me but I was really really wanting to see how they portrayed their 'love story' and see how it all played to the audience of the Capitol. It didn't even seem evident that Peeta did in fact love or even like Katniss, which I fully believe he did from the books. I really wanted to see the cave scenes. Booo :-(

Also, it felt rushed. Again, I know everything can't be put into the movie but they were barely dirty, much less beaten up, at the end of the Games! It felt like they were in the arena for maybe 2 days, not two weeks. And the violence... I'm not a fan of blood and guts but I almost feel like that was downplayed too much. It didn't feel as.... I'm not sure how to say this without sounding heartless and gross, but it didn't feel like the Hunger Games were that big of a deal without the violence.

I get them not taking Peeta's leg; it's not that integral to the story but he gets some magic medicine and then goes running around the hillside like nothing happened. That annoyed me a bit. I did like the "let me take the bow" joke while they were hunting. LOLs all around.

Now, I can't stop thinking about who will be cast for the next movie, especially Finnick. As I was reading "Catching Fire", I kept seeing Armie Hammer as Finnick but I also heard someone mention Chris Pine and oh dear lord, Chris Pine is fine. I don't know if I can picture him as Finnick but just for hotness, yes... yes, I can ;-) I saw someone mention Michael Emerson (from LOST) for Beetee and that is perfect!

Okay so what are you comments? Thoughts? Discussions? Let's discuss this movie/book! Who would you pick for the upcoming characters?

I know I just criticized the heck out this movie but I did enjoy it. I will see it again and maybe even again. Now there's only hoping they somehow better develop the characters for the second movie.
